For the punctual minded By A Customer #2001-08-06- Most of my life I've had early shifts for my occupation (i.e. being into work at 6:00 am or earlier). I used to have a clock that didn't have a battery backup nor did it keep the correct time. I saw this model clock that had both plus the time projection on the ceiling so my wife didn't have to try to roll me over to see the clock, so I decided to give it a try. The clock looks a bit futuristic, but that is its function. The exact time feature is great. I set the houses clocks to it whenever the power goes out, which is regularly (where in a rural town). The battery backup is another great feature that I've never had prior to this. The only drawbacks that I have with the clock is that in order to project the time on the ceiling so that you can read it on a decent angle, is to turn the clock so that you can't the time on its face. You either get to see the one on the ceiling or you get the face of the clock, not both. Another drawback is the buttons on the clock don't make much sense when you need to program the alarm. Once you know the buttons to push, its easy, but they aren't marked well. Hope this review is helpful for you.
NICE CLOCK but buy it LOCAL and SAVE YOUR RECEIPT superbzmom #2004-02-07- I've had four of these clocks so far and only two have survived. Don't get me wrong... it's a GREAT clock with easy and logical buttons and features, but one was dead on arrival and another one lost half of its print on the screen after only two months. BUY ONE LOCALLY if possible and definately save your receipt and packaging so that you can return or exchange it if it acts up. When we bought our first one several years ago, it was REALLY expensive. Recently, I found one at my local Target and it was much more reasonable. This clock is great for me as an adult and two of my children use it as well. The time projection on the ceiling is a nice feature for children that sleep in a top bunk bed. It's easy for a young child to turn the alarm on at night and off in the morning. My six year old uses his faithfully. The time is dead-on accurate and doesn't have to be re-set after a power failure. All busy moms should appreciate that feature. From now on, I will always buy an atomic clock for my kids!
Good clock, but not if it's your only one By A Customer #2003-03-25- I received this clock as a Christmas present from my grandmother the Christmas before last, and it's served its purpose well. But, I think I'm going to buy another clock to supplement it.
The Good stuff:
The clock is battery powered, so I've only had to wait for it to set itself two or three times when the batteries were taken out. (It's still running on the batteries it came with over two years ago, by the way.) The projection feature is really cool, at night when you can see it. It is pretty small, so it can fit just about anywhere - I have mine on a windowsill. The projector makes for a display much larger than a normal digital clock. And of course, not ever having to manually set the clock, even after the power goes out, is really nice. The Bad stuff:
A minor annoyance with this clock is that the official US observatory time is consistently two to three minutes slower than everyone else's time. Rather than the usual digital clock makings - LED segment display and real speaker for the alarm, this clock is made of supersized digital watch material. The face is an oversized LCD panel (think digital watch LCD, not laptop LCD), and is impossible to read except when it's illuminated (either by the backlight or daylight), and you're looking at it straight on from a couple of feet. The projector is (understandably) underpowered such that any ambient light at all washes it out to the point that it can't be seen. So, unless you carry it around with you or keep your windows covered by black curtains, it's almost completely useless during the day. Worse, though, than the display, is the alarm. Rather than a speaker, the clock has an oversized piezzo buzzer. (Once again, think oversized digital watch.) The crescendo alarm doesn't crescendo, it subdivides - "chirp........ chirp........ chirpchirp...... chirpchirp...... chirpchirpchirp.... chirpchirpchirp.... chirpchirpchirpchirpchirpchirpchirpchirpchirp....." ad nauseum. The lack of real crescendo means that light sleepers like me can literally have hit the snooze button before the second chirp. Which brings up another complaint - the snooze is only eight minutes, so you really don't get much of a snooze. In short:
This is a good clock to have around, but not as a main wakeup alarm. The battery power and automatic setting are very convenient, and combined with its relatively small size, would make it a good travel alarm clock. However, unless the thought of waking up to a glorified digital watch everymorning appeals to you, I would recommend buying it as a second clock, to set your other clocks by, use as backup during power outages, and just if you want another clock in the house. I like having this clock around, but I think I'm going to have to supplement it with another, one with a better alarm.
Great product at a great price Dan Crevier #2001-11-03- I was very surprised to see such a nice product at such a nice price. The automatic synchronization, and the projection are features you can't find in any other clocks at this price. My main gripes are:
* You can't change the orientation of the projection. I'd like to have the clock facing me when I look at it from bed, but if the clock is facing you, the projection will be side-ways.
* As someone else mentioned, if you change the time manually, the clock will not synchronize. This is very frustrating because the clock will not initially be set, and you have to wait up to 72 hours for it to synchronize. Your clock is totally useless during this time. If you manually set it, you will have to reset it for it to synchronize. This is not well documented in the manual. I found this process to be frustrating, but now that it's set up, it works well.
Even with these two shortcomings, I give it 4 starts because it's a nice product for a nice price.
It's about time for a GREAT clock! "gk-reviews" #2003-03-12- Design and function collide in this so-very-cool little alarm clock. Available in several colors (red, blue, purple, clear), it's easy to find a clock to match the decor of whichever room its intended for - and with the modern curvy design, it looks almost as much like a decoration as it does an alarm clock. But it's no dust-catcher - this little clock (actual size, according to the manufacturer is 4.25" x 2.5" x 4.5") works 24/7 sending radio signals to the U.S. Atomic Clock in Boulder, Colorado - one of the world's most accurate timepieces. This allows the ExactSet clock to maintain the exact time, even going so far as to update itself for Daylight Savings Time!
Even with minimal instruction-reading, this clock is amazingly easy to program and use. The first thing to do is use the clearly-labeled 'ZONE' button on the clock's face to choose your time zone - Pacific, Mountain, Central or Eastern. A small map of the United States on the clock's LCD screen allows you to see the time zone that you have chosen, making the process error-proof (as long as you know where you live!)
The clock automatically synchronizes the time and date via radio wave to the U.S. Atomic Clock. A Signal Strength Indicator on the LCD screen shows how strong the clock's signal is at any given time. While the instruction manual maintains that complete synchronization may take up to 72 hours, my clock reached full signal strength in less than five minutes.
The ExactSet alarm clock comes equipped with two AA batteries as well as an AC power adapter.
The overall design of this clock makes for easy information retrieval and it will tell you whatever you want to know - the time, including seconds, the date and day of the week, and will even keep the time for which the alarm is set visible for future reference. Just a touch of a button allows you to choose what information you want displayed on the LCD screen at any given time.
The coolest feature of this clock, though, has to be the projection display. With the AC adapter in use, the time is projected in large, red numbers onto the ceiling above the clock. (I was worried at first that my husband would not be able to tolerate the projection feature as he requires total darkness in order to sleep well - however, the numbers are a very visible yet very muted color that doesn't light up the room at all.) Oregon Scientific thought of everything with this clock, and a prime example is the angled projection. Assuming that most people will place the clock beside a bed, the projection unit is angled so that the time doesn't appear directly above the clock. I found that, upon waking, I didn't have to strain and careen my neck to find the time - it was positioned directly above my head where I saw it first thing upon wakening. (If the AC adapter is not used, then the time is not projected continuously. More about that in a minute...
Before actually trusting the alarm to wake me up, I wanted to hear it - and what I heard made me a little nervous at first. The alarm is a series of short, repetitive 'beeps'. Well after using my 70's model alarm clock that sounded a loud, terrifying blast (and having slept through it on more than one occasion nonetheless), I thought there was no way this little beep was going to wake this bedhead. I set the alarm for 6:30 a.m. and then set my old behemoth for 6:45 - just in case. Well just imagine my surprise when I woke up at exactly 6:30 the next morning - and indeed, for the mornings after - to nothing more than a series of beeps! After just a few days, the decrepit blaring alarm clock was relegated to the guest room...
Like any good alarm clock, the ExactSet has a snooze button conveniently located on top of the unit. One tap and the offending alarm goes away for eight minutes before sounding again. Pressing the snooze button also activates a blue HiGlo backlight to illuminate the clock's LCD screen for about five seconds. (Were you *not* to be using the AC adapter, pressing the snooze button also causes the time to project on the ceiling - again, for about five seconds.)
Setting the wakeup time is also a snap with this clock - just a button here and a button there and the time is set. Another wonderful discovery on my part, since setting my old clock often took several attempts. The ExactSet clock is this user's epitome of "user-friendly".
The ExactSet is hands down the most easy to use yet technologically sophisticated timepiece I have ever had the pleasure to use. Cool enough in design to appeal to children and teenagers, it's every adult alarm clock user's dream come true.
love it By A Customer #2002-11-09- I bought this for my 10 yr old. It is great because she can see the time w/o putting on glasses. HINT-set it on floor & the projection is very large. on top of a dresser, it is small.
I even got one for myself. The clear model is a bit annoying at first. the whole thing glows red because case is clear & projection light shines though case. it works like a night light. Also, my clock does not receive signal as well as my daughter's. I have moved it to an exterior wall & it's doing better.
My gift, or my boyfriends? S. McCorison "shansj #2003-01-14- This is a fun and useful clock! My boyfriend got me this for Christmas, and now I know why. He plays with it every chance he gets. The first night, he must have hit the illuminate button 15 times in 5 minutes.
Now some serious comments:
For those who worry that the projection on the ceiling will bother you - don't worry, it doesn't. I'm an extremely light sleeper who needs complete darkness, but the projection of the clock doesn't bother me at all.
I agree that the projection should rotate based on where you position the clock.
Also, the only way to see the clock in the dark is to push the illumination button which lasts for 5 seconds. So if you're trying to set the alarm in the dark, you have to keep pushing the button, kind of a pain.
For me the clock synchronized in about 10 minutes, so that was no problem.
Again - well worth the low price, and one of the more useful gimmicks I've seen.
Great clock for my 7-year old L. Battle #2006-08-21- Purchased this so my 7-year old can wake up on his own for school. I checked several stores and was dissapointed to find nothing suitable for a child (didn't want radio, CD, telephone, and other features).
** Pros **
1. Very compact size, fits good next to bed
2. AC adapter with battery backup (even came with batteries)
3. LCD display doesn't have annoying illumination while trying to sleep. Blue "glow" activates only when very easy to find button is pressed
4. Straight forward buttons and controls that took about 2-3 minutes for my 7-year old to learn. Buttons are a good size and are not real hard to press.
5. Great styling as a kids clock
6. The projection feature is a BIG hit. Projects about 4" high numbers on ceiling.
7. Projection intensity is good for laying in bed at night without lighting up the whole room
8. Decent construction for the $$$
** Cons **
1. None for my particular application
NOTE: If you are looking for a projection clock to use during the day (visible projection in sunlight), you will be extremely disappointed
Only works in Continental North America Lisa J. Miller "liza #2003-11-12- This is a great clock, I bought one for my twelve year old daughter several years ago and she loves it. The big downside is if you live in Hawaii (like I do) the automatic time set does not work. It's really a shame that they didn't add in some more time zones! It doesn't seem like it would have been that great of an expense to do this. They did not inform me of this before purchasing, even though I called Oregon Scientific specifically to find out. I was assured that if I was in the U.S. it would work. Hmmmmm, how many people don't know where Hawaii is?
It is possible to set it manually and the projection feature is really cool, but without the automatic setting it kind of loses its novelty.
Just Don't Knock It Over K. Martin #2007-02-15- This little clock worked exceedingly well at first. Clear, large display that was bright enough to read but not so bright it was distracting at night. It takes up little space on a night table, which is great.
However, if it's on your night table you'll have to angle it so that the clock face is nearly toward the wall, as you can't adjust the projection. If you face the clock out toward the far wall, the projection will be diplayed upside down.
Still, I was okay with this, as the projection was what I was interested in. And that worked great until it accidentally got knocked off the nightstand onto the carpet. One mishap and the projection was broken. Nothing could fix it; you can't even open the clock to explore the mechanics of it. Without the projection, it's simply a procey bed-side alarm clock. It's my fault for knocking it over, but I would think a clokc of this caliber should be a bit sturdier.
Cool Clock
Little clock almost has it all CoryVince #2006-01-29- This is one small clock, read the measurements. I didn't and was a little shocked when I took it out fo the box. On the plus side, though it is small it has everything you need and takes up such little room on the nightstand. It has a reasonably sized display, day and date, inside temperature and projects the time onto the ceiling. It can be battery powered or plug into an outlet. The time can be set manually, or you can use the atomic clock to have it set itself. That is an entertaining feature, but you should be very patient. It took almost an hour for mine to set.
The projected digits are red and cast no additional annoying light, so sensitive-to-light sleepers need not worry (I am one). The projector is fixed, so you do have to settle for where it casts itself, though the built in angle seems like it would be rather convenient for any standard bedroom. I have read that some people have troubles seeing it in the daylight. I admit you have to look carefully, but mine is near a window and I can make it out. I don't understand why you would need to see it during the daylight, you can look right at the clock itself which not only has a display face, but also a pleasant blue backlight that comes on for a few seconds when you tap the snooze botton.
My ONLY issue with this clock is the alarm. It is quiet. If you need the sound of a jet fighter taking off of an air craft carrier, think hard about buying this clock. That being said, the "alarm", a series of beeps for lack of a better description, starts off very softly and gets somewhat louder and more persistant over the course of a couuple of minutes. After a minute or two, it shuts itself off. I am a sound sleeper, but over the past month or so that I've had it, it has woken me up every morning. I am only afraid that I might "get used to it" and it will fail to be as effective.
Bottom line is that it's a well priced, small, effective projection alarm clock that works. I'll never go back to a regular alarm clock and I am very happy that I bought it!
Great kids alarm clock... Jay D. Anderson #2003-11-17- The time is set by RF signal from Boulder Colorado Atomic Clock... you just set the time zone you are in and let it go. All 3 of my kids have one in their room and they match time to the second! I mean... if you like up all the clocks together the second increments at exactly the same nanosecond!! The clock projects the time on the ceiling over the bed... open your eyes and there it is in red. Fantastic clock... clear one is a bit bright though as the red come through the clear clock as well as the projector.
4.8 Starts for this one E. Broockman "davide #2001-07-07- I would not give it 5 stars, I would give it a 4.8. However, that is not an option so I rounded. It looks great, and well, it feels great. The alarm is perfect to not startle you, and the projection is useful. If you wake up and you see the time, you can tell you have an extra x minutes without having to lean over. I called tech support for a problem (it was my fault, I didn't take out the plastic that covers the contact of the batteries) and they were very responsive. The 2 reasons why this clock did not get 5 stars (well, it did, but I secretly gave it a 4.8 as you read above): a) It makes an annoying noise when you press the buttons. It is a very sharp beep. b) The clock itself always runs on batteries. The AC power supply only powers the projection, so you still need to replace the batteries. The good news: every 5 years.
The atomic time is nice to have for perfectionists and for people who just want to know exactly what time it is. Even for people who do not need the atomic time and just want an alarm clock, this is the way to go.
Some tips on using it: This clock comes in a nice packaging which is easy to open. When you take it out, you must go into the battery pack and pull out the plastic that is keeping a battery from contacting. Then, replace the lid. DO NOT SET ANYTHING ON THE CLOCK EXCEPT THE TIME ZONE UNTIL IT SYNCHRONIZES. Also, don't plug it in from 11:00 PM - 3:00 AM (not like you would) because when it turns on, it automatically displays 2:00 AM in central and other times for other parts of the US. I was confused because I did this at 2:00 AM (I couldn't fall asleep) and checking my watch, the time was about correct. However, it turned out that my watch had ran out of batteries, it was not indeed 2:00 AM at all. It takes it about 10 minutes to get syncronized. I would plug it in, otherwise projection drains the batteries.
Okay Alarm Clock, But Nothing Special "wisamy740" #2002-02-06- I bought this clock partly because of the projection of the time. Unfortunately, the time projects really small on the ceiling, and since I have glasses and don't where them at night, I can't see it anyway.
The actual alarm sound is not extremely obnoxious like loud beeping alarms, but is enough to wake me up without waking up the entire building. Its pretty easy to set the alarm, and the way its set up, you can see the actual time of day and the time your alarm will go off.
The instructions were not very helpful. I had to play with it for awhile before I understood how it worked. I like the fact that it has a battery and a cord because in power outages it will still go off.
Overall, I would recommend buying this alarm clock if you are a light sleeper and don't mind playing with it to understand how it works.
Works for this eyeglass user T150 #2005-01-08- Excellent product. I too wear glasses and was concerned the digits would be illegible...no worries, the clock sits on my nightstand, yet the digits appear on the ceiling large enough for me to easily tell time unaided.
As for the synch feature, I'm in the Southern California metropolis and the clock sits next to a window...yet sometimes it synchs, sometimes it doesn't (well, I do have metal awnings...hmmm???). No big deal though, because it never goes without synching long enough to matter and the ceiling projection is its raison d'etre.
The convenience of this product is addictive...live with it for a while and you'll never go back. Buy it!
A Hoot! David "Foxboy" #2007-01-22
Great Clock! XtraSaltNLime "Sha" #2006-12-17- I recently purchased this clock and it's a great little clock! The time and temp are cool features as well as the projection which is very cool and useful. The projection (usually on the ceiling) is not too bright to hurt your eyes when sleeping or awakening.
The only problem with the projection is that unless you have the clock on the side the numbers project upside down. I mean to say that if you have it facing you straight ahead the numbers will be above the clock upside down.
The atomic feature was a bit tricky also. I live in central NJ and when setting up the clock for the first time it didn't pick up any signal. After I searched for a signal, took the batteries out and tried everything I knew and everything the manual mentioned it wouldn't get a signal. So I had to write an email to the company and they sent me a response with several suggestions, the one that worked and was most useful was to search for a signal (by pressing the down arrow) and then while its searching place it where it can recieve full signal, which is shown by the meter on the left, like a cell phone. Once you get enough signal let it sit there until it sets itself (you may need to take it outside)...this can take from 10 mins to days. In my case it took about 5 mins. So it set the signal and the company says once it sets you can put it where you want and it will keep the signal. Other than that problem, which is fixed, the clock is hassle free and very easy to use.i highly recommend it. Oregon Scientific was also helpful and I sent them a thank you email stressing that they need to put more signal suggestions in the manual, because if they did I wouldn't have needed to bother email the customer service. Hopefully most people didn't give up that easily and kept trying to get the signal to set if they didn't they may have returned the clock needlessly.
The alarm is loud enough for me to awaken and the snooze button is useful and on the top so it's can be reached easily in a drowsy stupor.
Overall it's a cute, useful, and stylish clock.
Love this thing R. Anderson #2003-09-18- Great little clock. And I love the time displayed on the ceiling. I never realized how nice that feature is. I can't think of anything negative to say about this little clock. If you like the looks, you won't be sorry you bought this one.
The only alarm clock you will ever need Lindsey #2001-11-28- I bought this alarm clock and that wow this is great. It shines the time on the ceiling, if you are a light sleeper that needs complete darkness (like me) then you can turn this off. This feature only works when plugged into the wall. When alarm goes off or just want to see time when in bed, hit the snooze button on top and time is shone on ceiling. Since the projector is attached to the clock, if you want to look at the display you have to turn the clock or otherwise your time will be on the ceiling sideways. I leave it sideways. But this is the only alarm, since the frequency of the alarm and the volume get persistently louder, that will wake me up. I have tried a ton of clocks before this and this is the one. I have had it for 3 months now and now I wake up before it gets to loud. It is such a great way to wake up.
The Perfect Clock E. Wentzien #2007-01-15- I love this clock because it has it all in a slick package for a good price. The battery lasts forever, so it's portable, the time sets itself atomically, it shows the temperature, has the obligatory annoying alarm clock, the time lights up on the ceiling, and it looks good to boot. Very well-made and highly recommended. Oregon Scientific rocks.
great clock Francesco Lazzarino #2006-05-18
Nice clock - but limited to "lower 48." J. M. Hufman #2004-09-10- I do like this little clock. It is small, lightweight and runs primarily on batteries. Plugging the clock in allows the clock to project time in nicely blocked red characters 24 hours a day. The red characters are not intense enough to show in daylight, but are distinct in the dark. On a six to eight foot ceiling the projected numbers are about 12 inches tall. The clock's display is illuminated when the snooze bar on the top of the clock is pressed - this backlit display is also clear and easy to read. The alarm sound does lack some vigor, but the really sad thing is that, although the clock will tune itself in to reset time in Alaska, it sets itself only for the four time zones in the continguous 48 states of the United States. The nearest time zone to Alaska, the Pacific Time Zone, is an hour different than Alaska Central Time. Therefore, if I allow the clock to automatically set itself by radio wave, even though it starts out manually set to Alaska Standard Time, after automatic reset the time on the clock will be "wrong." Oh well. It still makes a great travel clock.
I really like it! A Customer #2001-07-26- It is my favorite gizmo now. Auto-update took an hour the first time, but it is perfect now. The display on the cieling is very very good. Quality seems great. From the cieling display you can tell if the alarm is set. I like that.
This Clock is SOOOOO COOL!! By A Customer #2004-01-09- This clock is sooooo cool; we use it as the official clock in the house. No more calling "time & temp"!!
It was very easy to setup; it says it could take upto 48 hrs to "find" the satellite, but ours connected within 5 mins.
Great little clock Thornflesh #2008-01-17- This clock is the best, really. Automatically sets itself (don't make the mistake of buying one of those clocks that come with the time pre-set, they don't work). BUT this clock works great, because it synchs with the atomic clock via radio, occasionally. Plus having the time in giant numbers projected onto your bedroom ceiling is wonderfully visible and readable without glasses. You don't even have to lift your head to read it.
I own 3 of these. They are great and even come with a AC adapter so you can keep the projector function on all the time. But of course you can't read the projected image in the daytime. SUPER JOB, OREGON SCIENTIFIC!
It's only OK T. Ng "virgochick71" #2007-04-12- The projection is not the clearest (not like the pictures anyway) but it's adequate. The atomic clock thing didnt work for a while (for me) but the thing is it eventually did. As an alarm clock it does the trick and looks better than the average clock and it's not as pricy as the other models.
My Family Loves the Projection Feature - Buying More Mtn Girl "MtnGirl" #2006-12-28
Gotta know the time! By A Customer #2003-09-25- I always need to know what time it is, especially in the middle of the night when I wake up. Since my wife and I were first married, my alarm clock with the bright red blinking light was eliminated, which left just one clock...on her side of the bed. Well, after I purchased this little jewel, I can look at the time and not have to worry because the projection does not illuminate the room.
Also, fresh out of the package, this baby automatically synchronized itself with the atomic clock. How cool! No more worries about adjusting for daylight savings, or periodic power outages...or even unplugging. Just plug it in and forget it.
Upon comparing the time with her clock over a period of time, her clock was very, very fast compared to mine. She now uses my clock as an accurate measurement of time.
Thanks!
fun christmas gift By A Customer #2003-05-26- My husband had been joking that he wanted a clock he could see(without glasses)in the middle of a sleepless night, and voila!!!It projects large enough even for those who regularly need glasses to see. And you can project immediately above you on the ceiling. Very good product, does just what it says. A bonus is that it automatically sets itself to the "atomic clock" and is always right!!! He still gets a kick out of it. Finally a useful gift that is fun too.
Works, but should have read the fine print. Cynthia M. Leaf #2011-02-20- Works fine. I did not notice anything about the back light, of which there is none. I cannot read the clock at night unless I hit the light button, but that stays on for only 5 seconds.
didnt work for us Angela B. Ray #2005-03-30- After reading all the great reviews we bought this clock for our 8 yr old. We were unable to get the projection to work and had to return it. We are out of pocket for the shipping expenses although the refund for the faulty clock was prompt.
Had high hopes but will be looking for a replacement clock.
The writing on the Wall Chip B. #2008-02-12- [...]
I got it exclusively for the projection, but realize I'll be able to turn my cell phone off if I use this clock as an alarm instead of my cell phone. I can wake up to a watch alarm easily enough so the low level of this clock's alarm won't bother me. I'm 61 years old and have trouble reading my back lit watch in the middle of the night. This clock's projection worked just perfectly; 3 or 4 inches on the ceiling when projected from the night stand.
It was automatically 13 hours off when I plugged it in, but the projection showed up on the ceiling even though it was the middle of the afternoon. By the time I got it placed right, it had adjusted to the correct time. I could be mistaken, but I believe you could press the "reset" button(on the bottom)if you make the mistake of setting it manually when you get it. IMO, the atomic automatic setting worked perfectly. Big surprise, it set to the same time as my other atomic alarm clock and my computer's clock.
I haven't figured out why it doesn't use the AC current to drive both the clock and projection, and use the batteries as a back up during power failures. I took it out, plugged it in and the weak battery signal started blinking. I guess that's par for the course and a good reason why so many products don't come with batteries.
I'll come back and do an update if it breaks and/or when the batteries fail. If it lasts a reasonable time, I'm very happy with it.
Great Projection Alarm Clock! Amanda Smith #2008-02-11- I have had my unit for years and have just purchased another for a friend. It is easy to use, the projector works wonderfully (the red numbers are nice at night, not glaring and doesn't reduce night vision), the ascending alarm is a useful feature, and it is stylish (not to mention compact and easy to fit anywhere; and hard to knock-off places since it sports rubber bottom fittings). It works just as well as stated! Another nice feature is that the projection can be turned on or off with a roll of a switch, and the time can be projected (when not displayed) by touching the top button. Easy and nice. Overall, a lovely product!

Everything you'd expect, now let's ask for more A. Pais #2007-05-13- I'd like to see the projection unit move in orientation. The way I have it set up, I get a crick in the neck trying to read the numbers right to left and bottom to top. :-)
This is the 3rd unit we're buying incidentally. We bought the first one about 3 years ago.

Ceiling Time The Pocket Rocket #2007-02-04
Good click if you are not in Alaska Time Zone Clearcut "Clearcut" #2007-02-06- Clock does all that is claimed, EXCEPT, it will not accept anything farther west than Pacific Time. SO, if you are anywhere but in the lower 48 time zones, you are SOL.
Perfect Clock Paul Sheets #2011-02-21- My wife and I enjoy the large bright read-out projected on our ceiling! Makes noting the time a charm during those nighttime sleeping adjustments. This purchase replaces our 1st Oregon Scientific Projection Clock that lasted 9 years! Plus the new model includes indoor thermometer ... which helps me answer accurately the oft asked: "How COLD do you have it in this room?? Brrr!"
Does what it does. J. Tomlinson #2011-01-22- I've had two of these clocks down through the years. I still have both, although the projected time on one is starting to have funky numbers. The one that is starting to go bad has been in use for well over five years. I suppose that's a pretty good track record.
At one time, both of these clocks got very bad. The time on the display was completely messed up and, in one case, the clock wouldn't even work. I replaced the batteries and the clock started working perfectly again. Apparently, these clocks use the battery all the time, even when plugged into the wall. If you have bad batteries, you can expect these clocks to appear to have failed.
I don't use the alarm on the clock (I never use an alarm to get up), so I can't vouch for the alarm. I also don't look at the time on the face of the clock; for that, I have a very large red LED clock across the room.
My vision is not what it used to be and I can't focus properly on blue light without glasses. However, I can usually make out what a red light is trying to tell me, so this clock works very well.
Adjustability? No not really. One of my clocks has somewhat suspect focus and the image can't be rotated. I just put the clock where it can project the image where I can see it and in the orientation I want and go about my way.
Would I like to have temperature and weather while laying in bed? Yes, but on the other hand, I really ought to get out of bed. Time is really the only thing I need to know whilst laying down. This clock provides that and nothing more. This is the minimalist approach to a projection clock (if the idea of a projection clock could be considered minimalist).
Alarm clock with a nice tone MBT Fan #2010-11-07- I have had one of these before and I love it, I like the beam on the ceiling and I especially LOVE the nice tone to wake you up without scarying you out of bed. It's light and portable if you need to.
Big Blue Lucia Marcela #2009-12-10- My biggest peeve with this clock is that the projection is so fixed that the only way to move the image around is to move the entire clock. Not having had a clock like this before, I didn't realize this would be an issue and so didn't consider a different model. Also, I didn't read the dimensions and it's quite a bit bigger than I thought it would be. Again, I probably should've checked but it just didn't look that big in the picture. That said, I love Oregon Scientific products and would purchase one again in the future. I love the accuracy of the readings and having the indoor temp right on there is a plus.
Oregon Scientific Projecting clock Eastwind Coasty #2009-10-23- I received my first Oregon Scientific clock after I had heart surgery and had to lay on my back. It was great to look up on the ceiling to know what time it was. After 5 years the proj bulb quit and the company said it exceeded the usual life. I purchased another from Amazon and will now turn out the proj. light in the morning, doubling the life of the clock to ten yrs. happy days...
not worth it A. Stahly #2008-11-07- I was very disappointed when I received this clock after reading all the reviews about it and seeing it was a top seller. I bought a competing clock 2 years ago from Amazon and accidentally dropped it and wanted to replace it with the same clock.at the same price..$20...but the clock is no longer available at Amazon (Emerson Research). It had a much more powerful projector, able to swivel, spin it, had HUGE nite glow numbers, also a radio and auto time set.... This junky little thing from Oregon Research is tiny...cheap construction and tiny buttons. It also has a tiny projection feature with no flexibility in viewing angles, and of course it doesn't have a radio. I can't believe this is a top seller on Amazon. I would buy the Emerson (sold at Target) for the same price hands down. (Oh by the way, the satellite time setting feature of the Oregon unit didn't work either). I have returned the unit. Do yourself a favor...keep looking!
Oregon Scientific Projection clock Marie E. Sonnenberg #2008-10-24- The numbers on the clock it's self are not all that big. Also if you wear glasses forget seeing the numbers on the ceiling.
Mag flashlight M. Porter "catsmeow" #2008-09-30- I love this little flashlight so much. It gives me just enough light to find my key hole in car door or house door. It's perfect!!!
Great little clock mmwdw "vacation drea #2008-07-02- My father had owned one of these clocks for years and it finally gave out. I ordered another for him and one for me.
We're both very pleased with the function of this clock. Bright red numbers shining on the ceiling or wall (I have to tilt the clock to see it on a wall). That is the only drawback to this cutie - you cannot adjust the projection display. That is the least of my worries when I have a clock! It keeps great time - hey, it's atomic!
Keep up the good work.
love it R. Drucker #2008-06-23- I always like Oregon Scietific products. They automatically set their time. the overhead display at night is big enough for me to see without contacts or glasses.
this atomic project clock works great Philip Lam "wifi gur #2008-06-23- just like old times, this one has some new and improve feature like the temperature inside, which is great and accurate. i have bought the older version of it before and it worked great also, no complains from me. good projection, clear and easy to see at night. no more twisting and turning to look at clocks.
